Oblique Strategies

Lost in Useless Territory

I used this prompt as a sort of starting point for my story. I ended up writing about the cornfield (the useless territory) first before I fleshed out the scene at the train station.

Don't Break the Silence

I used this prompt when introducing the old woman at the train station. As the card suggests, the old woman never speaks to the player despite them asking her questions on multiple occasions. She never breaks her silence.

Use Unqualified People

I twisted this prompt a little bit by making the player the unqualified person. They are not qualified to help the lighthouse keeper and are unable to do the one task they are assigned.

Take a Break

I was having a hard time figuring out how I wanted to story to end so I took a break for a couple of days.

Don't Be Frightened of Cliches

The part where you reach into your pocket and find a set of keys feels pretty cliche. I think there are a lot of moments where something really bad is about to happen but you get pulled out at the last minute, that feels cliche also.
